Many years ago, I was honored to be involved with our Church monthly food ministry, and each month, I was blessed to preach the Word to three different groups on that particular Saturday morning. I have always loved the Gospel hymns, and I have always thought it would be a wonderful idea to just get up and read the words to these songs, as a type of special reading. I think that we get so used to singing the songs, just like Christmas hymns, we forget just how powerful the words are. So, I was thinking about reading one of the hymns as part of the service, when God spoke to my spirit, and questioned why I didn’t just write something of my own to read. So, I did, and “I Believe” became the first real Christian poem that I wrote, and shared with an audience.
I read it again, and still, “I believe.” And, reading it now, I really like the invitation to accept Christ’s finished work on our behalf.

I Believe
I believe that Jesus died for me
I believe that He bled … and He died
He hung on the cross for all the world to see
And, yes, I believe when God looked on my sin that He cried
I believe that Jesus was placed in a tomb
And a huge rock was put in the door
And then … not Jesus, but Satan … met his doom
Because God raised Jesus from the dead
And He is alive not just today … But alive forevermore
Yes, I believe that for me, Jesus lived, died, and arose
And I am so glad that it was Jesus that I chose
Because Jesus did not even have to show up!
He did not have to drink from that bitter cup!
I believe that not just for me-He did this for you
So now, dear friend, what will you do?
Will you choose Jesus as your Savior and Lord?
And live forever with heaven as your reward
